Writers’ & Artists’ workshops
I’d like to think my ‘How to Get Published’ workshop at Winchester Writers’ Conference went well – despite a rather stressful start. On my journey from London to Winchester, I got stuck in hour-long queues on the M4 and M25 which ate up ALL my ‘looking around Winchester time’. In fact, I finally arrived at the university with only ten minutes to spare… plus it was the week of the very hot spell so I was quite sticky!
I found my allocated room and most of the attendees were already there (which gave me no time to put on my new shoes with a high heel – you know, for confidence) and what a lovely bunch they were. It was a relatively small group compared to my Hay workshop, so I was able to get to know everyone a bit more.
After a slow start (I left my notes in the ladies’ loo), the workshop got going. It ran from 7.30pm – give or take retrieving my notes – until 10.15pm, but questions and further talk lasted until 10.45pm. I was pretty pooped but the enthusiastic responses from everyone there gave me a little buzz as well as the energy to drive back to London.
So, another workshop wrapped up, and I really hope I was of use to all you budding authors. The next Writers’ & Artists’ workshop will be at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in October. I’ll post the details as soon as the exact date and time are confirmed.
Warm wishes, Jo
