My advice would be to read. Turning a journal into a book is a bigger undertaking than it sounds because it suddenly needs a theme, a point to your ponderings and cohesion that was likely to be missing from your journal entries. Reading the work of others will give you an idea of how that is done.

How about turning your travel journal into a fiction book? This is what I did with my black comedy novel, 'The Broken Boots Guide to Astlavonia', which is set in a fictional country called Astlavonia where daggers are used to settle disputes. It's based on my experiences of living and working in Greece, Estonia, Japan and Oman, and wondering whether it was possible to fully integrate into a foreign country.
