There are different types of book editing:Â developmental editing, line editing, copyediting and proofreading. Revising in the right order is essential if you want your book to be in the best shape possible.
Hello! I'm not sure where the right place is to ask this - I hope it's here!
I'm looking for a couple of beta readers in the medical industry for my completed YA contemporary novel.
The novel's main theme is mental health, specifically eating disorders, depression, and self-harm, and I would really love to find a beta reader in the medical industry who can pinpoint anything that they think might be too triggering for young readers before I start working with an editor.
First time I have posted in the community since the website was updated. Good to be back.
My query has to do with comic strips: I drew a strip back in the mid-nineties. It is a strip I tried to get into newspapers. I only had one published. There weren't that many but I want to redraw them as they are all getting a bit faded now. My question is what year would I put on the redraws if they are exactly the same? Would I put the original year (1994) or would I have to put the current year?
I'm updating a Christmas story I wrote in 2000 and am wondering what people are doing about including the pandemic in light-hearted works. Do I ignore it and describe a pre-covid world in the hope that such normality will have returned by the time of publication, or do I slide it into the text, imagining that in three or four years' time, kids will still be regarding masks, distancing, bubbles, etc., as a real and necessary part of Christmas???
Hiya all. Does anyone know if Puppy Dogs and Ice Cream publishers for children's books is a self publishing house or mainstream. Tried to go into it but can't find out. Thanks
I was wondering what sort of writing space my fellow writers have when they are creating their masterpieces. Â
I spent quite a few years working at a tiny desk in a corner of a very small kitchen but since getting my own apartment a couple of years ago I've set my spare bedroom up as a study. I took a photo a few days ago of the desk area where I write and just wondered if we all have pretty much the same set-up or if there are some radical alternatives out there i.e. floating trays for use in the bath or even anything weirder and more wonderful!
Just entered my first writing competition in 7 years after various health issues and life events conspired to take away the spark.Â
Regardless of the outcome it felt good to apply myself to regular and consistent periods of writing and although I only had to write the first chapter and synopsis for the competition I actually completed a whole novel!Â
Thanks also go out to Richard Elder, Victoria Whithear and Jonathan Hopkins for their wise words which proved invaluable in getting my synopsis done.
