Competition Synopsis

Hi. I'm interested in entering the competition for 'The Working Class Writers' and I was wondering if, maybe admin, could answer my question. It says in the rules they want a synopsis to match the work. Is this a full synopsis of the whole ms or is it just a synopsis on the short piece that has been sent in? Thanks.

    Hi Jonathan,

Indeed, thanks for your comments. We will amend to be crystal clear and hope there is no further confusion around the prize.

Hi Admin. I'm afraid your clarification has muddied the puddle a tad more, basically because 'ideally' (also used on the competition page) makes the request unspecific. If you get rid of that, clarity reigns!

Thanks admin I am gradually putting this synopsis together as requested. Might take a while but I will get there.

    Hi Elsie & Jonathan,

The idea is that the piece of work you submit is ideally your current work-in-progress. This is mentioned a few times on the competition page. The piece that you submit needs to be the same story as what is in the synopsis. We are more than happy to make this clearer if need be on the page. But essentially, it follows a similar procedure to that of submitting to an agent; you wouldn't submit your opening chapters with a synopsis for a different story to an agent.

We say only if you have it, but of course we'd encourage all writers (who are looking to submit their work to an agent/publisher) to practice writing a synopsis. It's a tricky task, but it's a really useful skill in being able to hone your plot.

Hi Jonathan. This was why I questioned it I wasn't sure what it entailed. Anyway I've begun to put the synopsis together and am I struggling! If I get this done I'm keeping it as a template I didn't think it would be so difficult.
