Calvendo is a free of charge self-publishing platform for creative people, allowing them to create calendars and ‘flipart’ (calendars without the calendar grid) using their own photos, graphic art and writing and retail them on online platforms of Calvendo partners such as Amazon or hive.co.uk. Calvendo provides an easy to use online editor where users can upload their material, create calendars and submit it. Their work is then being checked by the Calvendo jury and once released for publication assigned an ISBN.
Products can not only be ordered online but also in brick-and-mortar book shops since Calvendo has set up an interface with the book retail sector and Calvendo products are listed in trade catalogues. Once ordered (online or in book shops), they are produced via digital print-on-demand and shipped. All rights such as copyright to photos and other content remain with the self-publishers who also set their own prices based on given minimum prices for each calendar format available. Depending on that, the self-publishers share starts at 10% or 15% and can go up to 30%.
Calvendo was set up in Germany in 2012 and launched internationally in 2014.
