Jane Austen As A Teenager w/ Cecily O'Neill

Cecily O'Neill introduces the exuberant imagination of the teenage Jane through the hilarious works Austen wrote between the ages of twelve and sixteen - the Juvenilia. She will discuss and illustrate the challenges of bringing some of Austen's most startling characters to life in the collections of plays inspired by the Juvenilia.

This event starts at 6.30, with the welcome return...

To enter, all you have to do is submit a short story (for adults) of no more than 2,000 words. And that's it. Unlike previous years, there's no theme for you to base your story on; all you have to do is make sure you're registered with the website, the subject line of your email reads 'W&A Short Story Competition 2018' and you send it to competition@bloomsbury.com.

The closing date for entries is midnight on Tuesday 13th February, 2018. The winner of the competition - along with two runners-up - will be announced on the blog pages of this site in March 2018.

The Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival and the Salariya Book Company have opened their 2018 Children’s Picture Book Prize for submissions.

CWA Dagger Review Competition

Write a review of any of the 2017 CWA Dagger shortlisted titles, including the winners, and post it free to the CWA’s DaggerReads website.

The CWA will select the review they consider to be the best as the winner

The prize is a full weekend pass for CrimeFest 2018 (event only) and a copy of both the new CrimeFest and CWA anthologies.

Please submit the first 3,000 words of a crime novel, plus synopsis (max 1,000 words).
The writer must never have had a traditional publishing contract for a full-length novel. Self-published novelists and their work are eligible.
