Dr Susan Greenberg has had a long career as professional editor. She began as a reporter, feature writer, and editor for newspapers and magazines; then as managing editor and content strategy advisor for non-media organisations. Later she brought that experience to higher education, teaching and research about publishing and writing practice. Over 18 years, she led a creative writing strand on all forms of narrative nonfiction, and provided a practicum for publishing and editing skills. She was also a hands-on publisher of the in-house imprint, Fincham Press. Currently she heads Oddfish Editorial, specialising in developmental editing, copyediting, and skills training.
Testimonials
"Susan has expertly advised me on structure, style, and messaging for presentations and conference papers. Most recently, she edited a nonfiction book proposal for which I have been offered an advance contract. Her remarkable feel for language and sensitivity to different audiences has led me to seeking her counsel on editorial issues across multiple platforms. I can’t recommend her highly enough." – Alex Bertram, Creative Writing instructor
"Susan was my journalism lecturer. She was also an excellent mentor and a champion of her students' achievements. Her guidance, support and deep working knowledge of the industry were instrumental in my career development, especially during a testing and unstable time for the media. Susan's teaching went beyond the classroom, too – she helped me set up a mentoring scheme at a publication, which provided real-world experience for many aspiring journalists." – Dan Fahey, Journalist, Editor, Copywriter. AA Gill Award Finalist 2020
"Susan was one of my lecturers while I was at university, and while I didn't always show it, I always listened to what she had to say and I've since applied much of it to my career. In particular, I studied a course on publishing for the internet, which I now do for a living - a testament to her teaching ability. Susan has continued to be an inspiration and a constant source of industry news since I graduated. I was also fortunate enough to pick up a part-time internship during my third year thanks to a tip that she shared in one of her lessons, and this internship paved the way for a career in content creation and online marketing. Thanks, Susan!" – Dane Cobain, Author and Writer
"I first worked with Susan as a client when she edited World Link magazine, for which I consulted and to which I occasionally contributed book reviews. She is one of the most fastidious and reflective writers and editors I know. Her choice of subjects is original and her take thoughtful. She appears to take a similar approach to her teaching and research. Susan is one of the few people from who I always welcome advice, and criticism, with respect to my writing." – Nico Macdonald, Lead instructor at Accent Global Learning
"I worked with Susan over several years and developed the highest regard for her intellectual abilities, seen through her top-class editing work. She has an extraordinary range of knowledge acquired around the world and applies that through her work. That continued, I know, during her academic career. She’s reliable and in an age of delay and prevarication, actually delivers on time in the agreed format. She makes a fine addition to a team or as a freelance consultant." – Francis Harris, Man Ed CEPA
