Maria Giovanna Brauzzi is a nonfiction editor and former commissioning editor at Bloomsbury Publishing, where she spent over a decade acquiring and developing academic titles. During that time, she initiated and guided more than 200 books from proposal to publication, working closely with scholars, educators, and expert practitioners.
She now runs an independent editorial practice, working directly with authors who are shaping complex ideas into books. Her work focuses on developmental editing and longer-term mentoring for academic, subject-led, and narrative nonfiction.
Maria’s approach combines structural clarity with close attention to voice and argument. She helps authors strengthen their thinking, refine their positioning, and produce writing that is rigorous, readable, and confident. Having worked on both sides of the publishing process, she understands what publishers look for, what readers respond to, and how to support writers through what can often feel like an overwhelming stage of the work.
Maria is a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and Partner Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). She holds degrees in Comparative Literature from King’s College London and UCL, and a CORe certificate from Harvard Business School.
