A set of proofs of the pages in a book used to check the accuracy of typesetting and page layout, and also as an advance promotional tool. These are commonly provided in electronic form, rather than in physical form.
Slush pile
Unsolicited manuscripts that are sent to publishers or agents but may not be read.
Unsolicited submissions
The manuscripts a publisher receives directly from a writer without asking for them, and without an agent. Most larger publishers will not read unsolicited submission.
