My story is fact based on the story of a women going through pregnancy with her first child, how the medical community let her down, through physical and mental illness before and after the birth, the fight to get proper medical treatment and the legal fight to bring the NHS and the doctor to justice. My story is an account of how pregnancy is viewed in our society, how women are mislead into believing the advice given to them by so called professionals and how other doctors, lawyers, advocates try and cover each others back, it has been a fight over nearly 7 years that has taken everything from me, including my career, my very precious intimate moments with my son, and the aftermath that has been my life, I have never written a book or even contemplated it, but I believe enough people aren't listening to people and enough women are not being given relevant information to assist them throughout their pregnancies.
I would appreciate advice on how best to tackle this,
thank you
Going through legal process now, just instructed new lawyer and advocate as my team got cold feet and dumped me 2 weeks before the diet date that i have been waiting 6 years for. Have all my medical notes, Gmc guidelines of what should take place after an assisted birth, research paper after reacher payer and also an insight into the legal aspect of the balance of probabilities for negligence cases, bases on hunter v hanley, just feel i have so much information to pass on.... thx for everyones advice
You aren't a writer, but it's your story to tell, Carol. So write it out - even if it's just rough notes - and make sure you have all the facts in the right order.
Re-living all that you went through is going to arouse emotions that you thought you had under control; you will feel incredibly angry and hurt and heartbroken for all that you missed out on, and you should be prepared for that to be far worse than you think it will be. Getting it all down on paper will help you to decide whether you want to pursue this as a public matter, or whether the writing has been cathartic enough.
If you do decide to pursue the idea of a book, you have to be aware of the legal ramifications of any accusations you make. Will it be fiction or biography? You need to decide, in order to find the right sort of ghost writer. You could then advertise for such a person in a writing magazine or forum - somewhere like Mslexia might be a good place to ask.
Best of luck.
Hi carol
just read your instruction to your book.It sounds like a great story and you know what you are talking about. Belief in yourself and write..
My advice is just sit down and start writing your story down. You can write in longhand into a notebook or you can use a lap top if you have access.
Don't worry about the grammar and stuff that can be done later when your story is finished and gets edited.
Writing is a very healing process. You don't have to write for hours. just one hour a day will do. May be start of with sticking pads or cards on which you put short notes about your story and then sort them in order what you think fits best for your story. Just write from the heart and the rest will come. Good luck
