Do agents have a problem with representing self-published authors? Will a mainstream publisher be willing to take on a self-published book?

If a self-published or would-be author sells enough eBooks or paperbacks, then agents and publishers would jump at the chance to represent them. I believe you would need to sell 1,000 - 3,000 copies to attract their attention. A small publisher would be interested in an author who sold a 1,000 copies.

There have been few success stories of self-published would-be authors being signed up by publishers.
