Do you find yourself doing this?
A few days ago I found myself analyzing a poem I was writing WHILE writing it. It happens to one of my friends as well; She said she kept seeing weaknesses in her writing, so much that it put her off writing.
so, do you analyze while you write as well?
We all analyse as we go, don't we? I'm self-conscious of every sentence I write. I have to be reasonably happy with what I've just written before I can move on. During my next period of writing I'll read-through what I've previously written and correct basic errors before I start writing.
I can't help to, but some advice I gleaned from a How to Write book did suggest getting out of that habit if possible. Creativity and editing requires two different states of mind; let the creativity flow and then analyse/tweak/correct later. That's the theory!
I do that ALL the time
But on a bright note its better to see your mistakes enough to correct them & improve your work
Far worse not to even notice !
What worries me is the bits I don't see
