Audience

How can you tell who you're audience is, I find I start out with one audience in mind but by the end I'm not sure if it's suitbable. Does anyone else find this?

I've written poems and don't know whether they would have an audience either; I wrote one for a competition so didn't have an audience in mind and the other I wrote when I needed a break from revision. Does it matter so much for poems? And I think you're reader would be fine with the crossover if they read your other books properly and enjoyed them :) I'd love to read some some time :)

Completely! My first two books are very mainstream and my worry is the rest of the series wanders into a niche. When I wrote it I was sure I was staying mainstream, but looking at the completed series I'm not so sure. It's really difficult to judge if your 'crossover' has crossed too far. I've decided that as long as I'm staying true to the characters and there is lots of foreshadowing in the first two books as to where those characters could go, the reader can't be too shocked... I hope.
