Authors Compensation for Textbook

What kind of advances to authors of textbooks receive?

It will take about a year and a half to write the commissioned textbook the

publisher wants, what should I ask for?

Would it be wise to get an agent?

I appreciate your answer very much!

I have been hesitant to pull the trigger on this project, because I am not sure about the negotiations and I can't just quit work to write this book if the compensation is not enough.

I will look for an agent, would you happen to know how to find one?

It's cool that they want me to write a book, however I don't really think of myself as a writer,I

just have experience in my subject.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!!!

I wouldn't have a clue to be honest and yes on the basis that it's probably very easy to sell yourself short unwittingly then I think an agent would be worth their cut :)
