Can somebody please tell me how much i would have to pay a footballer in the United Kingdom to write their biography.

Many thanks Pearl

The chances of you being allowed to write any footballer's biography are nil, Pearl. They have agents and managers and accountants to protect them. Unless you are a very high-end writer of such works, with a record they can check, why on earth would they give you access to their personal information? How could they trust you - assuming they ever responded to your offer, which they wouldn't - not to use it for your own ends? If you were to write any such book without permission, they would sue - and they have the big money on their side.

Back to the drawing board, I'm afraid.

Why bother?

Male footballers at the top of the tree are paid enough anyway!

I suspect some of our women footballers could well do with the money, but how many people would buy the book?

In any case, surely there is a principle at stake; you are a professional writer - they should be paying you.

If you were to ‘go in’ on a share of the profit, that would be a different matter. The footballer’s greed (or rather their agent’s greed) might still see you with not enough return on your effort to make it worthwhile.

Remember, we are in the writing business to make a good living, not to scratch an existence.
