Hi All,

I have a great passion for writing. I wanna be a writer in my life. I have written couple of Articles and published a short story collection named 'Bunch of Roses' online. Now i'm writing a Novel. My big problem here is, i'm an employee in an MNC and i need to give some financial aid to family. I'm really finding it really difficult to cope with the day job and my dream in hands. I can go for a job, but the job i work should be a writing job so that at least i'm able to help my family out and i can also write. Friends... Kindly give some ideas/suggestions or is there any way that i could cross this hard ship to become a writer. Many thanks in Advance.

I read somewhere (think it was the Writers and Artists twitter) that the average author makes £11,000 a year. A lot of successful authors don't make a lot of money from their books. Is there any way you can scale back your working hours to the minimum you can afford to bring home every month so you have some time to write?

There's no magic wand, I'm afraid. Life has to come first. Until you can make a living by writing - and few do, out of all the ones out there who have been published - you have no choice but to keep up the day job. What you can do is make time around that - early mornings, evenings, weekends, and give it all you've got; the only way you are going to earn anything from your writing is if you write it and sell it. For all the JK Rowlings there are in the world, there are thousands of wannabes trying to make it - and don't forget, she started out as a struggling writer too.

Never give up hope, never stop writing and submitting. Yes, there will be rejections that will feel like a slap in the face, and your family may complain that you're ignoring them; but if you really, really want this, you'll work at it as though your life depends on it.
