I have been a beta reader for my friend Debbie Ellen Carr who has been writing Balancing Syrestia, and have so far have enjoyed every minute of her books.
It got me thinking though that I would love ot become a beta reader for other authors too. So I was told to come on here and let you all know who I am.
Sarah
Your offer is a very nice one Sarah.
But I would like to address a few points that have arose from the convo.
Beta readers are an audience sample. What they receive should be completed (/unless you are using a writers circle method, or reading in the broadest sense!), edited, and at a point where you a readying for the next stage. It is quite likely that a part of this will cover spelling mistakes, and possibly editorial issues (continuity, plot holes, flat chara's or what have you). With, hopefully, a strong focus on story.
Often a beta read will lead to a revision.
Beta readers do not usually charge, I would be wary of someone who was doing so. Usually you establish a friendly/respectful relationship with your betas, your first audience.
Though I suppose times are changing and the cottage industry is ever innovative. Perhaps purchasing herds of beta's will be the new online audience sourcing method, as capitalism brands every experience with a meager value, damning those who do not clink when they walk.
Ha. I'm tired, and need to write. FYI I don't think that last para is you Sarah :P
