I completed my first novel before Christmas and have sent it out to some agents without success (so far!). In an effort to raise my 'web presence' as a writer - which I've heard from various sources is important if you're trying to get published - I've started a blog (www.diydecoratingdame.wordpress.com). A good idea or not? And anyone got any suggestions on how I go about raising the profile of my blog?
Thanks Christina, I'm already on the case!
Also thanks to Jean for a hugely constructive and helpful response. I've just had a quick look at the site you recommended and its full of really useful information especially in relation to blogs as an 'author platform'.
Hello Elaine,
A company cannot sell their goods without a marketing and sales department. If the goods are not advertised no-one is going to know they exist. This also applies to publication. If this is your first book you will have to be the sales and marketing department yourself, unless you are able to pay for private marketing. Treat your writing as a business (even if you have another day job) and do everything to make this business a success. I find the following website business-like and easy to follow, not to mention the wealth of information contained within its pages. Go to www.thecreativepenn.com. There is also an e-book on the subject (free of charge). It is written without hype and from someone who has been through all the motions.
Good Luck
Hi Elaine,
The blog I use (I haven't been on it for some considerable time I have to admit and should really get back to doing it again) allows you to do your blog and then if you have a facebook and\or a twitter account to put a link onto your pages and then people who are following your or friends with can see that you have updated it. I hope this helps Elaine.
