Hi all. I would be really interested in anyone's views (or struggles) with devising a 'killer' title for their book (or if they're aware of any previous posts/discussions on the topic on this site that I could look at). I initially titled my book (about terror attacks in the UK), 'GATEWAY' then binned it as it sounded like a 1980's supermarket chain. I subsequently changed it to 'CRITICAL MASS' so my question is: What image (if any) does that conjure up?
My intention was to create 'urgency and a feeling of an overwhelming onslaught gathering unstoppable momentum but i'm conscious that it could also be interpreted as a really important gathering of a Catholic congregation. You can see my dilemma!. Any views would be appreciated.
I like 'critical'. What about something like the government/MI5 use - 'Threat Level: Critical' or somesuch?
I too struggle with titles. So I have a system - when I start a story I write down a title and add to it when something comes to mind, so by the time I've finished I've usually got 6 or 7 variations to choose from. Then there's less of a panic right at the death! :D
Best of luck.
I'm with you Paul. I Hadn't considered that approach. I do want something to grab someone's attention and having looked around book shops, that's a tough ask. A question demands an answer so you might be on to something. Thanks, Dave.
Jimmy - Cheque is in the post.
Hi David. Does the title necessarily have to inform what's going on, you know "you can't judge a book" and all that.
why can't the title be a question, this is not suggestion as a title, but just as an idea of what I mean, and this is a bit lame so bare with me. " How safe do you feel" See what I mean about lame but is the idea a thought or a complete none starter.
