Building a "profile"

Hi, I have read on here and other websites that it is good to build a profile on networks like Facebook, Twitter and the like. I'm quite shy about this and, have no experience at all. I was wondering if others thought that this was necessary, and if so, how do you begin? I am on my first draft, have had good feedback on this and previous writing so far. Any thoughts?

Thank you Ann for asking the question. It is one I have thought about. I do write a blog but did wonder what to put on it. That really helps Aria, to know what to put on. Also I hadn't thought of writing reviews on Goodreads.

Thank you

Thank you Aria, this is really good advice. I'll look up the sites you suggested.

Good luck with your writing.

We're in a similar boat here c:

I'd say, as with everything, the trick is in focusing on what matters, and what *is* there. You haven't published a book yet? Okay, then make a blog (or whatever) and focus it on the creative process of writing one, or make posts on social networks about your musings, struggles, research, interests and so on. Don't make the profile be about your novel - let it be about you, both as a person and as a writer. Just don't be disrespectful towards anyone else, and you should be fine.

A good place to start building networks are also sites for writers, such as this one. From the top of my head, there are Scribophile and AbsoluteWrite, where you can get familiar with others in similar situations, review, and so on. Goodreads is also a great place to go, especially if you write a few reviews of novels you've read as well, which might get those who read them get interested in you and eventually your work.
