Is it permissible to use a verse from a well known poem as an intro to a story? In fact using a quote from that verse as the title to the story?

Doesn't it depend on how old the poem is? You could get away with Shakespeare but with anything recent, you would need to know if it's still in copyright.

Is there any way to work the original authors name into the opening wording without detracting from your own writing?
