Colouring Book for Adults

by Isabella Chan

Hello everyone,

I am an artist and I do a lot of black ink illustrations.

A few people have encouraged me to try and get an adult colouring book published but I have no idea where to even begin!

I thought I should try and put the question out there to the experts.

Any advice is most certainly welcome, here is the link to my Instagram page:

Thank you!

Hi Isabella, I just went to your Instagram page and saw your art. WOW! Your friends are right you should try to get an adult (and or children's) coloring book published. I'm no expert, but I'd begin with gathering some of the best ones out there now and call the publishers and ask for their submission guidelines. You may even find them online. I do hope you will give it a try. All the best, Elizabeth

Go for it: it's a great idea. I'd suggest making sketches of whatever comes to mind, including scribbles, patterns, simple shapes to invite textures, complex ones for slowly building images, geometric shapes and tessellations. Then do galleries and museums, and of course, whatever catches your eye. Keep the possibilities open, and maybe a themed series will develop. (I like Bridget Riley, Rothko, Beryl Cooke, Matisse, Pissaro, and some stained glass windows.)
