Createspace

Has anyone any experience of the usefulness or otherwise of Amazon's Createspace, with particular reference to the marketing and publicity they offer? Cost-effectiveness, etc?

Thanks everyone;

early this year I had a small sum (from normal eBay profits) to "invest" in the final stages - this was when I looked at CreateSpace; I decided to attend the recent London Book Fair instead, with my badge labelled "author", and pay to have my 4 self-published books in the New Titles Showcase; so far nothing positive has happened! Although I have recovered from the bad cold contracted when a provincial fellow who doesn't get out much is exposed to the whirlwind of London life!

I recently set up an account and the next day I got an email asking to arrange a time to call me and discuss what services I required, etc. It seems the least you can spend is $248 and up to $4,853. The majo costs come back to copyediting and more advertising. All authors should have an editor if they want to produce a professional item. There are some very good works on CreateSpace. What is comes down to for a budding author is how good their book really is. If you spend money on CreateSpace but the book does not sell, I don't think you could blame them (!)

When I did some preliminary investigations, my feeling was that it steers you towards signing up for professional help from their experts. This seemed expensive, but would perhaps be worth it if the end result was a published book that sold well.
