Dark Fantasy and what it is?

Hi fellow writers,

I'm doing some research on dark fantasy and just wondered if anyone writing this could leave some advise,

Thanks

Sorry, Theodore, this isn't actually about Dark Fantasy, but the wording of your question reminded me:

In my children's school there are a few small almost-but-not-quite sound-proofed rooms for music rehearsal. The signs on the doors read:

Practice = Noun

Practise = Verb

"I am going to practise in the practice room."

Once I'd seen them I have never misspelt practice/practise again.

It's the same for advice and advise.

Hi Theodore

I’m currently writing a dark fantasy story myself. I stared this work in June 2014 and have now completed my first draft. I think the question is what you are looking for. I started to research other dark fantasy novels and authors to get an idea of what they have covered. I Googled most of the work but I went to the library and got help there. Then I began to write down what I know and learnt.

Under dark fantasy you do have the vampire, werewolves, demons witches etc. but it depends on what you want to write about. Plus there are so many other creatures out there to write about. I hope this helps. =D

I won a competition a few years ago which has the theme of dark fiction. My story didn't have any horror characters like vampires or zombies. It was a simple setup with people forcing their way into a house, but there was an ongoing threat of something bad or brutal going to happen. so although it wasn't "fantasy" the way you're meaning, it was in the "dark" category.
