Degrees, rejections and being a newbie.

I'm a brand new member and one of the main reasons that I've chosen to join this community is down to the fact that although, after quite a long time, I have almost finished my first draft of my first novel (currently around 90,000 words), I have absolutely no professional experience when it comes to writing; the closest I got to a degree was a A* English at GCSE level and I'm terrified that all the hard work and passion that I've put into it will be destroyed with one rejection letter after another. Because from what I've read about agents, it is highly unlikely they will even pick up my manuscript.

Is there anyone out there who may be able to provide me with any advice or suggestions as to how I am may improve my chances of attracting an agent?

I would appreciate any comments, Sarah Lee

It can be really disappointing to get a rejection letter, I have had two so far and from one agent didn't get anything in reply at all. But like Christina says a thick skin is essential. I understand that the main horrifing thing about rejection letters is that your not entirely sure why they have said no. I have a niggling feeling that the reason I am getting rejected is that I am so young and people aren't willing to take me on because I'm underage.

The main thing to do is just to keep at it, keep editing and keep churning out more stories with a positive mindset.

Hi Sarah,

Like Louise says we all get rejection and I have had my rejection letters too. A thick skin for the rejections seems to be a must. I'm still developing my thick skin but the urge to write far outweighs the rejection letters I have had or any which come my way in the future. Keep going Sarah. You will get where you want to be.

Well thank you for taking the time to reply. I've posted my first chapter here for feedback so I am sure I will learn very quickly whether my writing is good enough or not!

Could you talk more about Zines? I'm not sure exactly what it is I'm afraid!

Many thanks, Sarah
