So we've started up this tiny little publishing hut, and we've already had enquiries from some of you as to publishing your books, and one of them asks "Can I submit an illustrated book that hasn't got the illustrations yet?"
And I answer: "Go ahead! If it excites us, somehow we'll find an illustrator."
I, myself, am a writer. And my knock-out illustrator has turned sculptor on me and wants to concentrate her energies in that direction. So I'm looking for illustrators for my own things. And especially somebody who's good at copying the style of somebody else and filling out a portfolio that has already been started. Because I DON'T want to ditch those knock-out paintings...
At La Gr@not@, we're looking for new ideas. And that goes for new ideas in illustration, as well as in writing. I have virtually NO talent as a graphic artist, but I produced the illustrations for our publishing hut's first book... and have been told that they're lovely, exciting, original. Because I used a technique that's - as far as I know - completely unique in picture books. Leave a comment at https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/profile/jimmy-hollis-i-dickson/work if you disagree... or even if you agree.
But I don't want to parrot the technique, so until I come up with another unique illustrating technique, I'm looking for a collaborator.
And so is La Gr@not@ as a whole. See http://la-granota.com/
Is there a graphic artist in the house?
Hi, Christy!
Have you got [part of?] your portfolio on-line? Or in the form of a PDF that you could send us? If you go to the web-site http://la-granota.com/ and send us a portfolio using the addresses there, we can start to "talk turkey"... Or [if you DO have an on-line portfolio and want other users here to check out your work] you could post a link to your site here.
One of my sisters does some drawing, and my mother suggested I ask her to illustrate my own books, but I think her work is too "nicey nicey" / greeting-cards-style for our use [as publishers] and my stories in particular.
If you're innovative, ground-breaking, DIFFERENT, we'd certainly be interested. There are a few stories lined up that you could work on if we like your stuff.
HOWEVER... read our guidelines. As a baby company without a lot of financial muscle, what we could offer you might be far less than what you'd get with an established publisher, especially since you've already got some of your work published to mention in your CV.
I am an artist that recently came upon this website. What can I help you with?
