What things do you learn from taking English as a college course? What does it teach you i.e. techniques on how to write and stuff like that...Also, is it worth it?

English Literature or English Language A Level? (I took both, much to my friends' horror.) I wouldn't take either purely from wanting to learn more about writing - both are quite a lot of work and you need an interest in and skill for the subject.

English Language may be useful in that it teaches you the complexities of grammar, and there is a lot of coursework, all of which is creative-writing based. It's not all stories, though: we've done persuasive editorials, travel writing etc. You do occasionally look at extracts from novels or stories in order to analyse the verb processes used or something, which is quite interesting and slightly more akin to English Lit - but you never analyse beyond grammar, syntax etc.

English Lit is helpful I suppose in that most writers learn to write from reading.

I agree with Damien - in the end, it doesn't matter what qualifications you have as long as you can write good stories. If, however, you are really interested in everything to do with writing and reading and you have a real interest in English as a subject, taking it as a college course can immerse you and will probably be beneficial.

Good luck :-)

Is it all really important? What Matters is how good is the stories you've written. an editor will always go over your work.

Anyone can write a book as long as you have a great story idea and an editor to help you at the end.

All depends about a great storyline at the end.
