Extract published in anthology

Hi - I've recently won a competition 'opening pages of a novel' in a writers' festival. Part of the prize is publication of the winning extract in the festival anthology for 2014. As I'm hoping to sell and publish the full novel, is there any problem if the first few pages have already been published in hard copy?

I wouldn't have thought so. The main problem may be copyright - you'll need to make sure you retain all rights to the extract or a publisher won't touch it. Again, I'd have thought that wouldn't be a problem with this type of publication - one of it's functions is trying to attract attention from publishers in general. You need to check their agreement thoroughly, though, before you sign, unless the terms of competition entry make all conditions clear.

Congrats, and best of luck with it!! :)
