Games and stories :)

Hi all! Recently I got writer's block in regards to my novel so put it to one side. I did however want to write something as I was in the mood to put pen to paper. A friend of mine as a joke told me to write a short piece using his name... So I did. I enjoyed it so much I actually posted a status on Facebook taking requests from people as to what genre they wanted me to put their name into... Needless to say I was given some genres I'm confident at and others I'd never tried! I'm definitely having fun but was wondering if anyone else found ways to bring other people into their writing? Is this something that could benefit my future work?

Writer's block, now that's got to be an excellent subject for a community question or maybe even a blog!

Does it stop us from writing completely? Does it push us down different avenues of thought? I can't remember where I heard it but someone once relayed the tale of a bricklayer who turns up on the building site where he works and prepares himself for the day's activities. He then proceeds to sit down with a cup of tea in front of a pile of bricks and just looks at them. When challenged by his foreman as to why he isn't working he responds with: sorry, Guv, I've got bricklayers block today!

I guess for most of us on this site, our livelihoods don't depend on us earning money from our writing so writer's block is not such a worrying aspect for us, but the good thing you did here Victoria is that intend of succumbing to it you actively went off and wrote something else. Excellent response to that time stealing demon Writer's Block!

I can't say that I've written stories in the same way, but as long as you're feeling creative and enjoying it, I don't see why it couldn't benefit your future work. Just be careful not to get overly distracted by a "shiny new idea" that sweeps aside your novel.
