Hi all! I'm part way through writing my first ever noveletteand had a few questions.
1) I want to use a quote from a John Wayne film but (due to him being deceased) I'm not sure if I need to seek permission or not. Do I and if I do how do I go about this?
2) Can a novelette be published? I've typed 4884 words and although not yet finished have (so far) surpassed the 7500 word limit that (as I've been told) classifies it as a novelette)
Thank you in advance
Kind regards Victoria
Thanks Jonathan, I suppose phrases in common use are fair game. I do like a bit of fun with woeds, although that one is unintentional I will leave it as it is ironic. I think!
Paul - you shouldn't have a problem with that, basically because you can't copyright a title. You might even get away with well known slogans in character conversations but personally I'd be a bit wary. Though I suppose you could always paraphrase, and boldly go where not many writers have before ;)
Hi may ask ask a question that relates to this, are we allowed to mention the name of a film in the conversational text of an M/S or any other part of the text for that matter?
Regards Paul.
