I have a strong passion for zombie science fiction i.e the walking dead, resident evil, I would love nothing more than to create a undead universe of my own I just have trouble coming up with something unique is there any advice or ideas people can give me? thank you very much.
First make likable characters, ones who you can empathize and relate with. Then build up your world. How did it all begin? Perhaps the usual mad scientist causes it? Cliche :p
Cliche is great use it but make it totally your own, the reader would first get the character, and perceive that he/she knows about it, then surprise them with your unique twists on the character. So
-Characters, make as many as you can, how are they related? Complex relationships are nice.
-World and Cause, how your world is and how it came to be, take Cliche and mold it your style and your way.
-Kill 'Em. Don't hesitate to kill off characters and it's Zombies so it's like a MUST anyway, even if it's one of the important characters, don't hesitate, if you think it's needed, necessary and should be done.
-Character Development, vital to all tales- make sure you nail this down.
