Hitting A Brick Wall

Hi everyone,

I am getting to the stage in writing where I am hitting a bit of a of metaphorical wall. Whilst I am writing my current novel, I keep getting loads of ideas for another novel that, at the moment, seems to be more exciting and better than the one I am currently working on. Should I just make notes for the second one and carry on with the one I am doing at the moment or just start the second one?

Is it a good idea to have two novels 'on the go' at once?

Has this happened to anyone else when they have been writing?

Thanks,

Laura

I beg to differ, some of the most accomplished authors were writing more than one book at the same time and they had success. My advice would simply be to do what you think is best. No two writers travel the same path. Get the new story out of your system before you continue with your current novel. You won't be able to concentrate otherwise if a host of other characters keep storming into your mind everytime you try to focus on your current work.

Kind Regards,

Sandra E.

Hi Laura,

You need to remain focused on the work at hand. My recommendation is bang away at the story and not get distracted. If you are losing interest in what you are writing currently then without doubt your reader will see this and lose interest also. Ask yourself why you are getting distracted. Are you bored with what you are writing. If that is the case then perhaps move on to something else.

Before writing your novel map out the story if you can, right down to the chapter level if possible. This will help keep you on on the path to completion. The most important thing any writer will tell you is to finish what you are working on before moving onto the next thing.

Cheers,

David

Hi Laura,

If I was you I would keep going on this one but write some notes for the new one you have in mind.

If you start a new one your mind will start to wonder back and fourth. I am almost ready to write my next book (white lies) and why I am just checking Jacob Jones my mind is wondering.

Best of luck :)
