How did you start the opening pages of your novel?

Something must grab an agent or publishers’ reader attention immediately. This can be an unusual use of language, a unique voice, a startling action, a bit of dialogue, an active description of setting.

I agree. Nowadays most well known authors seem to start with a single shortish attention-grabbing sentence before a full paragraph begins.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I say.

I agree Adrian, I have opened mine with an event that happens and sets the story in place for what the bad guys plans intent to be, but I always like to tweek it a little so the readers think they now where they are going but actually I have full contol over their imagination (I dont know why I just evil laughed when I wrote that last bit?)
