I agree. Nowadays most well known authors seem to start with a single shortish attention-grabbing sentence before a full paragraph begins.

I agree Adrian, I have opened mine with an event that happens and sets the story in place for what the bad guys plans intent to be, but I always like to tweek it a little so the readers think they now where they are going but actually I have full contol over their imagination (I dont know why I just evil laughed when I wrote that last bit?)
