Also, when you make your list of agents, tailor each submission to them personally as much as possible. Position your work against similar authors in their list, make sure your cover letter is well written and that your submission is edited for spelling and grammar. Also, follow their submission guidelines to the letter. Even then, it's tough, so prepare for rejection! Good luck to you, hope it goes well.

First find multiple agent's who would suit you and your work, and as send out your work's to all of them. Some might reject you, some will ask for your work and then say no, it is a long and tiresome process, that may take up to months. But in the end, one or two might agree to represent you. To find all your potential agents, get the Writer's & Artist's Yearbook, or subscribe to listings, or do some digging of your own on the internet, you are bound to come up with something.

Make sure you make your work the best you can before you send it out. Other than that, there's not a whole lot to know.
