How much local dialect is acceptable?

My story is set in Lancashire in 1962 and the dialect back then was quite strong. In real terms people would say something like 'I know nowt about owt.' Yep it's foreign! But would it be ok to add snatches of this dialect to the storyline? Not overload but maybe in an overheard conversation. Thanks

Thanks Dawn I really appreciate your answer. I'm never really sure about dialect, for me it's one of those 'grey' areas, but now I'll probably feel more comfortable with it. Thanks again.

In my opinion, local dialect and expressions help with visualisation. By that one phrase (which mean 'I know nothing about anything') I have already conjured up an image of a northern character. Go for it !
