Hello, I'm new here and testing the waters. I'm an illustrator looking to broaden my horizons within publishing. I've taken a look around and read some interesting articles on illustration but I'm haven't seen a great deal of activity from other illustrators. Is this predominantly a writers site? I was hoping to share my work and get i touch with like minded writers and naturally find some work too.
You can take a look at my portfolio here: http://chriswharton.com
Thanks!
Hello thar.
I'm a writer and it is predominately writers who post here, often about early stages of writing.
However other aspects of publishing do pop up and I have seen a couple of illustrators commenting. Perhaps if you get the ball rolling with some q's they'll come out of the woodwork. (Also I'd find it interesting too!)
So, had a little look-see and I can see why you've been getting those good commissions. Very classic, in the Penguin sense, but also clean and a bit wistful.
I have a little story/poem aimed at 5yrs. Could always collaborate and see where it goes :)
Hi Chris,
You are in the right place to discuss work.
Hi Ashwerya,
Thanks for stepping in.
I suppose I'm trying to figure out how I can use this site to further my work, find new connections and move forward in publishing.
I've had a cover printed with Random House Mondadori a while back for 'The Old Man and the Sea' and I've also recently worked with Penguin on some promotional material. What I'm really looking for is opportunities to work in picture books and on front covers. I specialise in hand drawn typography and children's illustrations.
Am I in the right part of the website for discussing work?
