I want to start writing a book

Writing is my passion, and I have been doing content marketing from a long time now. My colleagues have started asking me to write a story book or a novel for kids, even I want to start on one, but every time I try to take this idea seriously, I feel that no matter how good a content marketer am I, I wont be able to write a story book at least. Can anyone give me tips on how to write a book?

As Jeff said above, just write, write, write. Mistakes will happen; you just get better and it is a learning curve.

I didn't have any literary training or anything but tend to similar but I seem to express myself better with written word.

I started with many failed attempts before I got the right inspiration for my first published novel. Even that changed considerably from its inception.

Don't be afraid to experiment, that can always be amended and rearranged.

My two-cent piece of advice; just go for it!

As I always say to myself when in doubt - the 'no' is always guaranteed, anything beyond that is a bonus.

Good luck!

Hello, as most people have already said, you simply have to get on with it. From my own, admittedly limited experience, I find getting a deadline quite stimulating, usually by writing with the intention of entering a specific competition. Also, I take issue with the idea we are our own worst critics, I tend to think everything that falls from my pen is pure unadulterated genius so always let a few trusted people, that is people I trust to be brutality honest, to read it asap.
