And what's the strangest idea You have thought of?

All my ideas for stories come from 'real life'. It could be anything - a news item or something I am told or overhear. Most of my' 'scribbles' to date have been of the 'light hearted' 'chic lit' genre.
I am currently attempting to write a WW! novel based on my great grandfathers (complete change of genre for me) experiences. This is not an easy task and has involved masses of research - but I am slowly making progress.
I write historical military so I deliberately look for things historians argue about, or which don't seem to make logical sense. There are more than you might think.
The main problem is that historical events form a pretty fixed setting you have to work a plot around, which can be a bit limiting.
So I don't really do strange. The oddest thing that's happened to my characters was an invented situation near the end of my last story. I wrote it, and later found out from reading a French officer's diary posted online that it might have been true. Slightly spooky ;)
The original idea for my novel has been with since I was a child. Ideas came to me for more novels as I was writing the first draft of my manuscript. I have the beginnings, middles and ends of four novels in a series. There is potential for more than four.
