This is for Jean Kotzur and others who lived in London in the 1960's. I host a website "London in the 60's" where people can write their recollections of life in London in the 1960's. Jean, yours was such an evocative summary. Would you care to leave more recollections at the site? www.londoninthe60s

Lynn,
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out. My story is sort of set in the present day, but the main character is ruminating on what it would be like to travel back in time. Mainly he focuses on the Sixties, because his Dad was young then and has told him about them. So I'm trying to focus on events, style and fashion to paint the picture. Reading some of the recollections was quite enlightening.
Dear Malcolm,
Thanks so much for your email and thank you for checking out my "London in the Sixties" website. If your short story takes place in London in the 1960's, these are some of the books I found valuable: Alan Johnson's "This Boy," Jenny Diski's "The Sixties," and a real treasure, Barry Miles's "London Calling." Miles covers a lot about the literary and art world and the denizens of Soho in the 1960's.
Cheers,
Lynn
Lynn,
I've had a brief look at your site, it contains some interesting recollections. I was researching the Sixties in London a few days ago for a short story I am currently writing. I came across a similar website (Soho memories), which had recollections, more specific to Soho but it was a very useful resource. My first visit to London was 1970 so I am reasonably familiar since that date, but it is really interesting to learn more about earlier times. Personal recollections can give a much different view to the one found in books, because everyone had a different experience. I hope you manage to contact more people as I think this type of record is extremely useful.
