managers vs agents

Well, in my opinion, a manager is better then an agent, but I would really enjoy to have some other opinions about the matter.

The other part of the question is: where can I find a manager here in uk? I really have a struggle with that because it always appears agents rather than manager!

Could you help me?

Hi Tiago.

I'm not sure where you are comparing the UK to, but the general state of play here is that when you have written something for publishing (let's ignore self-publishing for now), you either send it directly to a publisher or to an agent.

In short, if a publisher accepts your work and agrees to publish it, you will avoid an agent's commission. However, many publishers will not accept work directly from authors, as agents essentially narrow the field down and target the best publishers for your work.

Reading what successful authors have done, most appear to have agents. But what I would suggest you do is search on this site for agents who deal with your particular genre. These are most likely to help you get the best deal from a publisher including foreign rights and so on.

Try a few. See what happens. It can't hurt but don't expect an answer too quickly.

Good luck and keep on doing.
