Hello, I'm starting a new novel and I was wondering where you get your ideas from. I'm kind of lost at the moment. Its been pretty much a year and a half since I wrote my last work (been editing and sorting out submissions since) and a wee bit out of tune.
Thanks,
The genre of my novel is Chivalric Romance. I was inspired by the films and books I read as a child. The more I read, the more my original ideas evolved.
I have long been interested in Chivalric Romance, from Malory to Morpurgo, via Spenser, Tennyson, Sutcliff. I also read Homer and the Arthurian Romances of Chretien Des Troyes.
I want to keep learning, as much as I can about chivalry and fin’amors.
The experience of absorbing myself in my genre has given ideas for more novels. I have the beginnings, middles and ends of three more novels in what I hope would be a series of Chivalric Novels.
I suggest you read as much as you can about your genre. I believe it will inspire you. I’m sure that fresh ideas will manifest from your conscious and sub-conscious mind.
My tip is, Read, Read, Read.
I hope that helps.
Good luck.
There are just too many answers to this. It all depends n what sort of person you are.
Perhaps try writing some short stories: fresh & in diff genre to what you have done previously or further exploring your world if that affair isn't quite over.Look up techniques and try your hand at them.
This will continue to improve your writing style and perhaps one of those stories will be worth expanding. :)
