Media Training

My book will be published in spring and I was wondering whether it's worth getting some sort of Media Training? I'm thinking particularly of radio interviews with local radio stations...

Thanks

As with all things, it depends. Do you think you need some formal training?

To be honest, even if you were the most inept speaker this world has produced, you probably don't need media training if you are only doing a couple of interviews with local radio. The producer or the host should talk you through interview off air before it happens. Spend some time preparing succinct answers to the sort of questions you are going to get asked - "What's your book about?" (You want an elevator pitch for this one which you can then expand upon) "Where do you get your ideas from?" etc etc

I was always taught that then you get asked a question, you should try and work that question back into your answer so it can be used as a contextless soundbite - I get my ideas from ...

Don't worry about answering the actual question too much, concentrate on saying something coherent and interesting and make sure you mention things like your website and where people can buy your book, or any other events you are doing.

Speak slowly, relax, and do your best to sound natural. You'll be fine.

Good luck!
