I bought 100 ISBNs for my baby publishing concern for 229€, assuming that they would come with a bar-code each. When they arrived, I found that they were just numbers separated by hyphens. No bar-codes. [Don't get me wrong: I know that I needed to pay that money for the numbers. I can't just invent numbers and print them onto my books. The agency guarantees that there will be no other book - in fact, no other product of any kind - in the whole World with the same number.]

In the envelope was a slip of paper offering to provide me with the bar-codes for a further 320€. I went onto Google, typed in "Bar-code generator" and was able to download completely free a program that will convert any 13-digit number into a bar-code. For free.

I assume that MY 320€ offer is analogous to YOUR i63 pounds offer. 2 companies offering to do what you could do for yourself... for a fee.

I have NO idea about how to upload a kindle book. But there seems to be some misunderstanding here. Barbara and Antoinette are saying that uploading a book on kindle is free. Jonathan says that it's a bit complicated but that you CAN do it yourself [I assume that he means for free] if you follow Amazon's instructions. And Paul mentions a fee for getting it into kindle shape before uploading it onto amazon.

All this leads me to suspect that you, Irvin, are dealing with a service company which offers to convert your book into kindle and upload it for you. For which service you'd be paying 163 pounds. If you're willing to learn how to do it yourself, and to take the time to actually do it, you don't need to pay this service company... and therefore - with a bit of effort - you could have your kindle book on Amazon for free. Are you willing to do that learning work? Or would you rather pay for somebody else to do it for you? That seems to be the question as far as I can understand it. As to your question: "Where I can get that service for free", the answer - it seems to me - is "within yourself, and by following Amazon's instructions".

Correct me, somebody, if I got that wrong.
