Dear John,

The site is a free platform. We want it to remain that way, so we do sell books, hold events and offer editing services. If you're not interested in purchasing anything, however, then that's absolutely fine. Instead, why not benefit from...?

- Using the community area of the site to ask questions about publishing or discuss particular elements of the writing process

- Uploading excerpts of your work to get feedback from other writers using the site

- Browsing any of the advice articles or interviews uploaded to the site. There are dozens. These cover all parts of the writing and publishing process and many offer information on how to submit your work and insight into different aspects of the industry.

You won't get free professional editing services because no one has the time. They probably never did. The difference is that at least now you can buy professional advice and if you use a reputable site you will definitely get value for money.
