Jennifer Harvey said that Phil Rogers quoted a cracker from JG Ballard - where can I find it please?

"Later, as he sat on the balcony eating the dog, Dr. Robert Laing reflected on the unusual events that had taken place within this huge apartment building during the previous months."

An interesting opening sentence, but it did occur to me that perhaps what was being eaten was not a domesticated dog - as might be the case if the book is set in some sort of futuristic dystopia, but a simple reference to a hot dog! I can't place the book myself.

'Hale knew, before he had been in Brighton three hours, that they meant to murder him'.

Graham Greene - Brighton Rock.

Many authors have took their inspiration from Greene's dramatic opening line
