padding out a story

Hi everyone I'm currently working on a monologue to send off for a competition at the Bolton Octagon. I've got my character and her personality but I need to make it a 40min story and I've only got 10mins done. I don't want to 'water' my monologue down or make it monotonous. Also does anyone know how many words/pages work out to make 40mins. Help!

There is software that records your verbal dictation then gives you a printed transcript. I don't use it but it will allow you to ad lib your monologue until 40 minutes is achieved, then edit it in the computer, giving the number of pages and word count.

A more economical way is to take a letter sized sheet, fill it with text, then time how many minutes it takes you to recite it. Divide into 40. There you have the number of pages per 40 minutes. MSWord/tools/word count will give you the number of words per page, then multiply by the number of pages.
