hey guys,

I previously asked a question but had no response so I thought I'd try it again. I was wondering if it would be okay to use someone in real life for the story I'm working on. The individual I would like to use is the current Emperor of Japan, but I'm too scared to start this story in case I cannot use him for my work. He is not the main focus of my novel however the imperial family is. I would really appreciate your advice on this?

I would agree that a fictional name would be safer but....If your story is set in modern times, and focuses on the imperial family, wont people know that you're basing the character on the emperor whether or not you change his name?

Also, are you basing the character on the person or the position/title, because those are two different things.

Sorry this isn't really an answer to your question.

I think real name should not be used in case of an imperial family as it might land you in trouble. Therefore, I will suggest you to go with a fictional name. If it would have been a common guy you could have used the real name.
