Points Of View

When writing, do you find it easier to write in 1st person or 3rd person?

I have started my novel in 3rd person but am starting to think that it would work better as 1st person. Have any of you changed your POV after you've started writing? Which one do you prefer to use? And, is one easier than the other?

A great question, one I struggle with myself. I tend to write in both depending on what genre I'm writing in. I've just had an idea for a Sci-fi novel and I've heard it's best to write in 3rd person for that, but the novel isn't just about sci-fi it hopefully will detail the personal character development and emotion side to things to.

Perhaps it depends on the genre of the piece, what flows better, and which one you find more comfortable.

Hi Laura

This is quite a difficult one to answer. It really depends on your personal choice, I have tried both points of view and find the third person to be easier because first person means your main character has to be apart of the action thorugh every scene of the novel whereas third person means you can switch to other characters and I find it easier to flesh out the novel that way.

Of course if you think first person is better then go for it.

I hope you find success with your novel
