Hi all,

What are your opinions on prologue? I've shared mine. Any comments are very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Melinda

Adrian, a prologue can create a sense of expectancy. As I said, it had to add to the novel in some way; but it also has to have a very good reason for being there. It's a device that's been used for centuries in drama and fiction; it's also used in music, too.

I'm not a fan of prologues.

I believe its a lazy way to convey information.

I fail to see how information in a prologue cannot be drip-fed to the reader in the exposition and following chapters.

The art of beginning a novel is to steam in Medias Res - a prologue kills the beginning.
