The red banner at the top of the page

Not a question, just a piece of info. At the top of the page, there are various tabs which, if clicked on, reveal a lot more than you may think. Worth a look.

Also, there's an icon for the Bloomsbury Group on your screen, bottom right. Click on that and it takes you to their web page, which has details of who they are and where they are worldwide, as well as ads for their books.

There's more to this site than just the Community, but as is so often the case, most of us will never look beyond the forum. Look up!

Explanation: "Yes it is." should have had a comma and - to be unambiguous - should have continued. "Yes, it is a shame."

Just WHAT is there so negative in that to merit a thumbs down?!

Adding my contribution to the hijacking of this thread:

I rather suspect that one or two members of this site who have taken a dislike to certain (isolated) comments by Wilhelmina and Jimmy (and perhaps others) are carrying out a vendetta, thumbing down ANY comments they might find.

That WOULD be nasty.

@ Toni ("I suspect, if another member posted a "piece of information" within the Q&A section, they would receive scathing responses informing them this is a Q&A section only.")

I have seen various pieces of information - from various members - here and never seen any scathing comments that this isn't the place for them. Q&A is generally understood to be a forum for the exchange of opinions, information, advice... AND questions.

If - as Jimmy informs us - common or garden members are debarred from starting blogs, WHERE ELSE can we share information???

What I HAVE seen are [gentle] reminders to new users who "share" their work here that there IS a "shared work" section.

I suspect that I might be one of the "guilty" parties that you allude to in your first paragraph. The background is that 2 perfectly honest and - I feel - reasonable opinions of mine were given double "thumbs down"s. That irked me.

On one occasion I had heavily criticised a book that has fanatic admirers. On the other, I had been praising a book that I seriously doubt that the "thumbs down"ers had ever read.

On Facebook - to give an example - if one gets a "thumbs up" (and I now read that "thumbs down"s are to be introduced soon), one can see WHO gave it to you. Here you can hide behind an anonymous "thumbs down".

I like to know the REASONS that people have for disliking my opinions.

If writers run scared from spirited debate, I doubt their credentials for being serious writers. But there's a difference between spirited debate and nastiness. If I have ever been guilty of the latter, I wish to apologise.

p.s. I notice that somebody has given my friend, Jimmy, a "thumbs down" for each of 3 completely reasonable and friendly, warm comments.

Now, who could have done that? Looks like spite to me.
